چکیده

Stability properties are presented of dipole and quadrupole nonradial oscillation modes of model stars that experienced a late helium shell flash on their way to the white-dwarf cooling domain. The computed instability domains are compared with the observed hot variable central stars of planetary nebulae and the GW Vir pulsators.

Low-mass, helium-enriched PG1159 stars: a possible evolutionary origin and the implications for their pulsational stability properties

Aims. We examine a recently–proposed evolutionary scenario that could explain the existence of the low–mass, helium– enriched PG1159 stars. We focus in particular on the study of the pulsational stability properties of the evolutionary models predicted by such scenario. Methods. We assess the overstability of pulsation g−modes of stellar models as evolution proceeds along the PG1159 domain. Ste...

On the Possible Existence of Short-period G-mode Instabilities Powered by Nuclear Burning Shells in Post-agb H-deficient (pg1159-type) Stars

We present a pulsational stability analysis of hot post-AGB H-deficient pre-white dwarf stars with active He-burning shells. The stellar models employed are state-of-the-art equilibrium structures representative of PG1159 stars derived from the complete evolution of the progenitor stars, through the thermally pulsing AGB phase and born-again episode. On the basis of fully nonadiabatic pulsation...

Evidence of Thin Helium Envelopes in Pg1159 Stars

We present evidence that PG1159 stars could harbour He–rich envelopes substantially thinner than those predicted by current evolutionary models with current estimates of mass loss, which may be attributable to an extensive mass–loss episode during the born–again AGB phase. Specifically, we show that the models with thin He–rich envelopes predict remarkably large magnitudes of the rates of perio...

HS 2324 + 3944 : discovery of non - radial pulsations in a hydrogen - rich PG 1159 star ⋆

HS2324+3944 is a peculiar PG1159 star, with a high amount of H in its atmosphere (Dreizler et al. 1995). Its location in the logTeff – log g plane is well inside the GW Vir instability strip. In this paper I report the results of two photoelectric observations of HS 2324+39, which clearly show that the luminosity of this star presents periodical variations with a period of (2140 ± 11) s. This p...

New nonadiabatic pulsation computations on full PG1159 evolutionary models: the theoretical GW Vir instability strip revisited

Aims. We reexamine the theoretical instability domain of pulsating PG1159 stars (GW Vir variables). Methods. We performed an extensive g-mode stability analysis on PG1159 evolutionary models with stellar masses ranging from 0.530 to 0.741M⊙, for which the complete evolutionary stages of their progenitors from the ZAMS, through the thermally pulsing AGB and born-again phases to the domain of the...
